Trump says he’s trying to get Carrier to keep jobs in US
Haley will be working with a new U.N. secretary-general after the United Nations General Assembly appointed former Portuguese Prime Minister Antonio Guterres in October for a five-year term beginning January 1, 2017.
“Mr. Trump is well aware of the importance and the critical nature of South Carolina’s role in his election”, he said, as speculation swirled that Trump was considering Haley for a job somewhere in his administration.
As part of the Cabinet, Haley would have more opportunity to shape United States policies, rather than simply defend the administration’s positions.
Still, Haley has not hesitated to call out fellow Republicans, including Trump.
Trump said he chose Haley because she is a “proven dealmaker”. She responded to the nomination by stating the USA “faces enormous challenges” both domestically and internationally, and that she feels a “sense of duty” to accept the offer. “I think talented people can do anything”. “We are aware of the naming of Nikki Haley, and it’s someone with whom officials here are acquainted in terms of being aware of her position on many issues, including the laudable comments she made following the horrifying racist shootings in Charleston, South Carolina”, Haq said.
Haley broke a glass ceiling in 2010 when she was elected governor becoming the first woman and first non-white to win the job in the southern state, of SC, which has had a reputation for racism and social conservatism.
Trump and Vice President-elect Mike Pence also have meetings scheduled on Monday in NY with Oklahoma Attorney General Scott Pruitt, Rep. Lou Barletta, R-Pa., former Security and Exchange Commission commissioner Paul Atkins, World Wide Technology chairman David Steward and General Growth Properties CEO Sandeep Mathrani. She now leads the advocacy group, American Federation for Children, and sits on the board of the Jeb Bush-led Foundation for Excellence in Education. She was born in Bamberg, S.C., to immigrants from Punjab state in India.
The 58-year-old DeVos is a former Michigan Republican Party chairwoman.
Trump, who was at his Palm Beach estate Wednesday for the Thanksgiving holiday, called DeVos “a brilliant and passionate education advocate”. In the early days of the primary contest to pick this year’s Republican presidential nominee primary, Haley was mentioned as a possible vice presidential pick.
The American Federation for Children Action Fund, which DeVos chairs, and its state-affiliated PACs invested in 121 races in 12 states in the general election, spending spent $210,000 to support “pro-school choice” candidates in Oklahoma alone.
Haley was elected South Carolina’s first female and minority governor in 2010.
But Wednesday, Trump named Haley as his choice for ambassador to the United Nations, a move that will most likely serve to both assuage and confound the president-elect’s critics, raising questions about the tone and direction of his foreign policy.
It’s the hometown of South Carolina’s Governor and soon the hometown of the U-S Ambassador for The United Nations.
Haley will have a permanent veto power on the UN Security Council.
She has two years remaining in her tenure.
Last week, McMaster said it was South Carolina’s “stamp of approval” that gave Trump a winning boost, and he never regretted his decision to back the businessman.
The UN ambassador post is of cabinet rank and if Haley – a staunch conservative with no foreign policy experience – is confirmed by the Senate she will become a powerful figure in world diplomacy, despite previously clashing with Trump.
