Trump says will have most Cabinet posts filled next week
Trump said he has no choice but to overturn the Affordable Care Act, and repeated his promise to build a wall at the Mexican border to stop illegal immigration.
The company, which is owned by United Technologies (UTX.N), still intends to move 1,300 other jobs from IN to Mexico.
Trump described a highlight reel of moments on election night, recalling how he had seen how state after state, including Democratic bastions like Wisconsin, Michigan and Pennsylvania vote for him, and mocked media analysts who said he couldn’t break Clinton’s blue wall. Manchin was non-committal about the possibility of taking such a job if offered, but if Trump could lure him away from the Senate that would be another nearly certain Republican pickup in 2018 since Manchin is probably the only Democrat who could hold a seat in such a conservative state. There was actually a good chemistry.
But old campaign-trail tricks die hard as he taunted protestors and attacked the “brutal” media during the rally.
U.S. President-elect Donald Trump sits at a table for dinner with former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney (R) and his choice for White House Chief of Staff Reince Priebus (L) at Jean-Georges at the Trump International Hotel & Tower in NY, U.S., November 29, 2016.
– Tax reform. This remains the likeliest area for action within Trump’s first six months because congressional Republicans have already done substantial work on possible legislation. It’s not going to happen. Eight more positions remain unannounced, including secretary of state and secretary of homeland security.
Trump’s speech followed an event earlier that day in IN, where he boasted about keeping jobs in the USA through a negotiation with Carrier, the air conditioner manufacturer that announced plans to ship factory jobs to Mexico in a now-infamous viral video that showed employees reacting angrily.
He continued: “We are going to find common ground, and we are going to get the job done properly”.
“For too long, Washington has tried to put us in boxes”. Officials said this week that Carrier had agreed to keep some 800 union jobs at the plant. “We’re not announcing it until Monday, so don’t tell anybody”, he joked, adding, “He’s the closest thing we have to Patton, and it’s about time”.
Indeed, even though he was entering during a period of even greater economic collapse in 1932 than faced by Obama seven decades later, President-elect Franklin Roosevelt turned down Herbert Hoover’s request, as described by historian William E. Leuchtenburg, “to collaborate on framing worldwide economic policy” and said very little. The President proposes, but Congress disposes.
NEW YORK (CNNMoney) – President-elect Donald Trump has still not given a press conference since his Election Day victory. I think it’s very presidential. “If it’s not presidential, that’s OK”, he said. “We have no idea who they are, where they come from, what they’re thinking and we’re going to stop that dead, cold flat”. Much like he did during the stretch run of the campaign, he read from teleprompters, but he was bombastic as ever, spending more than a dozen minutes bragging about his victory before outlining his economic plan.
Indiana’s U.S. Sen. Dan Coats, a Republican, said the Carrier deal sent an important signal.
During a almost hour-long speech in this southwestern OH city, Trump promised to deliver new tax cuts to the middle-class, roll back federal regulations that he said hurt companies and build a wall along the southwestern border with Mexico. “It symbolizes more to come”.
