Trump seeks $10M from former staffer over nondisclosure agreement
GOP presumptive nominee Donald Trump is suing former senior campaign consultant Sam Nunberg – who was sacked from the Trump camp a year ago – accusing the former aide of breaching a confidentiality agreement when he allegedly leaked to the media information about an “apparent affair”, according to the Associated Press. The confidentiality agreement was later referenced in and incorporated into the April 14, 2015 agreement that Nunberg signed with the Donald J. Trump Exploratory Committee, which became Donald J. Trump for President, Inc.
Other public exhibits include: a May 19 Page Six story about a screaming match between Trump spokeswoman Hope Hicks and then-campaign manager Corey Lewandowski and a March 28 Politico story in which Nunberg details why he endorsed Ted Cruz after being fired from Trump’s campaign. The presumptive Republican nominee is now suing Nunberg for violating a non-disclosure agreement, and is seeking $1o million in damages.
Interestingly enough, Nunberg was not the only Trump employee required to sign a nondisclosure agreement, rather it seems to be the norm for those he employs.
What is Nunberg accused of leaking?
Since he was sacked, Trump’s campaign has shown flashes of operating more professionally, with the candidate giving more prepared speeches in addition to his freewheeling rallies. After parting ways with Trump, Nunberg endorsed Trump’s rival, Sen. Meanwhile, Nunberg, who was sacked last August for supposedly for publishing a racist Facebook post years earlier, filed a lawsuit yesterday against the Trump campaign that seeks to shut down the arbitration case Trump initiated and that asks for $10 million from the campaign for breach of contract.
Nunberg is pursuing action to make the arbitration case public, which would put a nice little ironic bow on the whole thing – that suing someone for violating an NDA may result in them testifying on the public record about the very things Trump didn’t want out there in the first place.
Attorneys for Nunberg and Trump did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
Mr Garten told AP that Mr Nunberg’s allegations about Ms Hicks and Mr Lewandowski were “categorically untrue”.
“The Trump Campaign is attempting to bring a frivolous and retaliatory arbitration proceeding against me essentially to punish me and shut me up”, Nunberg states.
The petition was filed on Tuesday in NY state court in Manhattan.
