Trump seeks distance from donation supporting Florida
That steep discount is a pretty valuable contribution for a campaign fundraiser that carried a suggested minimum donation of $3,000 per attendee, even if it was only a “small event on the lawn … featuring snacks and refreshments, attended by about 50 people”, as a Bondi aide told The Huffington Post.
CREW filed a complaint over the Trump contribution in March. The University didn’t refund students their money.
Bondi’s political group received the contribution just days after the attorney general’s office said it was looking into allegations in a lawsuit by New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman that accused Trump University of fraudulent conduct.
A liberal watchdog, Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington, filed a complaint with the Internal Revenue Service on Wednesday, calling for an investigation into the contribution. Bondi’s office ultimately declined to take action against Trump University.
New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman filed a lawsuit on August 25, 2013, alleging that Trump University and its affiliates were “sham for-profit colleges” that ripped off 5,000 consumers. “Our first priority is to get their money back and to re-establish the legitimacy of educational institutions in NY state”, is how Attorney General Eric Schneiderman described his case against Trump, whom he calls “someone who was absolutely shameless in his willingness to lie to people, to say whatever it took to induce them into his phony seminars”. “Never spoken to her about it”.
The now-defunct Trump University has been under heavy legal fire for allegedly using deceptive practices and scamming students who enrolled, thinking it would make them rich in the real estate market. “Many turned that down. -Trump-Foundation-and-Donald-J. -Trump-IRS-complaint-9-7-16.pdf”>organization online.
A deeper dig into Trump’s past shows yet another prosecutor who seems to have taken it easy on the billionaire – and received a needed political donation in what might be a coincidence, or might be pay-to-play.
Trump was later fined $2,500 by the IRS for making a political contribution through a tax-exempt charity.
In an all-too-ironic twist, reports on the donation to Bondi arrive amidst Trump launching “pay-to-play” accusations against Hillary Clinton. When I need something from them two years later, three years later, I call them.
“A private foundation can not operate for the benefits of its founders or board, or businesses they own or manage”, CREW’s release said. It is telling, too, that the media is rabid to cover Trump’s phony corruption accusations and fabricated Republican scandals against Hillary Clinton when they know damn well there is a veritable mountain of evidence detailing many Trump scandals and corruption. “Never. Many of the AGs turned that case down because I’ll win that case in court, many turned that down.I just have a lot of respect for her and she’s very popular”. “I never spoke to her”.
Additionally, Bondi’s solicitation of the $25,000 donation is the subject of a Florida ethics complaint filed this June by J. Whitfield Larrabee, a MA lawyer.
