Trump shrugs off Obama’s debate critique: ‘He can’t handle the country’
The whole objective of having neutral debate moderators is to push the candidates so that voters get to know them better.
The letter to the media organizations, which was drafted in the wake of Sunday’s emergency summit, included a list of questions the campaigns hoped to use to ensure more fair and substantive debates. “I think it’s OK if the temperature isn’t exactly 67 degrees”, Reuters reports McCain saying.
Trump also addressed his 2016 competitor Ben Carson’s surge in the polls, noting that Carson “just doesn’t have the experience” or the “temperament” to lead the country on the economic front and worldwide stage.
“I believe that there’s liberal bias in the media”.
It was legitimate for the moderators to ask Ben Carson – the GOP front-runner – about his affiliation with a nutritional supplement maker that has paid $7 million in settlements over its claims that its products could cure autism and cancer.
Following the Republican National Committee’s announcement that the party will boycott next year’s NBC debate amid the flap over format and control of the questioning, Carly Fiorina on Monday backed the notion that Glenn Beck should moderate one of the future debates. Or do we simply want them to enable candidates to deliver live versions of their TV commercials?
But on Monday, Trump’s campaign said that he would negotiate directly with the networks, as he had done previously. It’s direct, that’s for sure. “And I’d like money, frankly”, Trump said.
Yes, there should be a level of decorum at these events, and CNBC’s crew was less than respectful at times.
Not all candidates were on board with the letter aimed at forcing networks to bow to their demands.
“John Harwood was a disgrace to CNBC”, Trump later said at his presser. A few of the GOP campaigns, including Trump’s, have said they won’t sign the letter. Jeb Bush, once the presumptive frontrunner, has cut salaries and shed staff in a campaign now widely considered to be on life-support.
Perhaps they came to realize what Christie did.
Trump was also asked on Fox News on Tuesday about whether he would consider giving the vice presidential nod to any of his fellow Republican contenders.
“Because it’s stupid”, Christie said.
