Donald Trump has slipped as several rival candidates have gained on the 2016 GOP front-runner, according to a new Quinnipiac University poll following the second Republican debate. She’s above water against Trump by justtwo points (45-43).
Republican presidential candidates in recent general elections have won only a tiny portion of the black vote. Asked which party with whichthey identify themselves, 46 percentsaidDemocratic, 38 percentsaidRepublican and 17 percentsaidthey still viewed themselves as independent. Among thosewho say they voted in both 2008 and 2012, Trump and Fiorina are tied at the top at 18%, with 11% behind Rubio and 9% each behind Carson and Ohio Gov. John Kasich.
As a matter of fact, Trump has quite a number of minority supporters backing his presidency.
There may be reason, though, to think that he’s hit his ceiling. “[But] that can only takehim so far“, he adds. Independent voters said, 68 percent to 26 percent, that Clinton is not honest and trustworthy.
But poll results – especiallymore than four months before the initial ballot is cast – are volatile at this stage.
Voters may also be attracted to Trump’s disdain for political correctness, his tell-it-like-it-is demeanor, and how he does not sugarcoat the problems that Americans are facing.
He’s at 23/71 among Hispanics.
Trump later took to Twitter to continue his attacks on Rubio, his latest target in the Republican presidential field. Even pathological liar Hillary Clinton managed a 41/55 rating. Put another way, the margin of error basically makes the race a toss-up for matchups with Bush, Fiorina and Trump. In that scenario, Clinton receives 53 percent support to Sanders’ 30 percent, with former Maryland Gov. Martin O’Malley at 1 percent. In this category, Jeb Bush got the better of the businessman. Ben Carson, whom Trump has knocked frequently as supposedly lacking the necessary experience to be president (he’s never managed anything, has no practice at dealmaking, etc), finished at a modest 36/41 rating by comparison. “I think Trump’s support is primarily personality driven”. Right now, not enough people find him presidential.
While Trump has made questionable comments regarding women, former CEO Carly Fiorina has been a big advocate in the GOP for women’s issues. Marco Rubio – another candidatewho has been widely praised since his performance in CNN’s GOP debate last week – has 9 percent of the vote. The results alsoshow Fiorina and Rubio rising in the polls, Carson dropping slightly, and Bush maintaining his support. Ted Cruz losing the most ground.
