Trump Supporters Hold Nationwide Rallies
Jovi Vaughn, who helped organize Saturday’s rally outside Trump Tower, insisted that he’s there to unite the country under the president. At some demonstrations, the number of Trump’s opponents almost matched the supporters.
As those people showed their support for President Trump, they also reflect on what their president has done for the country less than six weeks in.
Others rallies were held in Bay City, Battle Creek, Petoskey, Traverse City, Grand Rapids, Sterling Heights, Bloomfield Hills and Novi.
But those vocal cries have frustrated some Trump voters, who have urged Americans to give the new president a chance before criticizing or blocking his agenda.
Police in Berkeley, California, say 10 people were arrested after Trump supporters and counter-protesters clashed during a rally that turned violent and left seven people injured. “We pray for him everyday”, said Stan Smith. “We want everyone to come, but come legally”. That was sparsely attended, but by 2 p.m. that had swelled, along with the ranks of sign-waving Trump protesters.
“Truth doesn’t have an obligation to make you feel good, it’s true whether you like it or not”, she said.
“We love Trump, we love Trump!”, roared out of today’s rally. “He’s just a bad, bad person. That’s why we’re here, hopefully to change some minds”.
Tensions between demonstrators were high. Critics of Trump held signs and chanted against the Trump supporters before breaking off to hold their own rally on a different side of the Capitol. “I’ve been a Democrat all my life, but I changed”, said Sonny Martin of Bensalem. “And when Donald Trump is no longer president, Michael Pence will be president for eight more years”, Cunningham said through a megaphone to the cheering crowd.
As the rally ended, attendees asked state lawmakers to do what they believe is right and continue supporting the Trump administration.
“I couldn’t be more proud of him or proud to be an American”, she said.
“I think on the heels of it”.
At least one Trump supporter was struck by pepper spray, according to social media postings.
“So this idea that we have some differences, it’s not a bad thing”, said Sen.
Protesters stood across the street from the State Capitol at the start of the rally, then crossed the street after the first two speakers finished.
“We won’t sit idly by when Trump supporters come to town and celebrate: fear, hate, and misogyny”, Smash Racism DC wrote on its Facebook page.
