Trump surrogate: “Taco trucks on every corner”
In a weird diatribe on his own culture, a founder of the Latinos for Trump group said Thursday on MSNBC’s “All in With Chris Hayes” that there would be “taco trucks on every corner” if Donald Trump is not elected this November.
“The Spanish never conquered Mexico”, Gutierrez said in an attempt to explain the dangers of his “dominant culture”. “And it’s imposing and it’s causing problems”. For many, taco trucks on every corner are the dream.
Instead, Gutierrez’s tantalizing promise is something most would welcome – at least if the reaction on Twitter is anything to go by.
On Twitter, it seemed almost everyone was saying, “Great!”
Needless to say, invoking the phrase “taco trucks” didn’t exactly instill fear into the hearts of Americans.
Because, what’s wrong with that?
If you’ve looked on social media Friday, you may have seen the phrase “Taco Trucks on Every Corner” trending.
“It’s our right as a sovereign nation to choose immigrants that we think are the likeliest to thrive and flourish and love us”, he said.
Both the number and variety of taco trucks across L.A. have only increased in the wake of a food truck explosion that has further ignited debate over where to find the best taco trucks in the city.
Bump surmises other restaurants would devolve into “price wars” and “undercut their offerings”, concluding there “would be plenty of jobs for those fired from higher-end restaurants, but the resulting drop in wages would be staggering”.
In an interview in late July with NPR’s Asma Khalid at the Republican National Convention, Gutierrez said he was born and raised in Mexico, came to the U.S.in 1991, and that his parents, who were farm workers, “came here as braceros”. Well, it’s one on every corner.
What Gutierrez was trying to get across was his belief that Mexicans are overbearing, and leave their imprints on everything, even on people’s palates.
