Trump tell governors he will make needed reforms
Trump has vowed to repeal and replace the Obama healthcare law, telling US governors and health insurance executives in separate White House meetings Monday that the law is a “failed disaster”.
But he acknowledged the subject matter, is, well, pretty hard.
OH governor John Kasich, one of Trump’s former Republican rivals for the presidential nomination, told the Washington Post he pushed Trump not to cut Medicaid.
About 32 million people receive their health care through insurance exchanges created under the health care act or Medicaid expansion in states that opted in under a provision of the law, according to the Urban Institute. “I tell people, they were sold a Caribbean cruise and they got the Titanic”.
As Republicans ponder what to do about healthcare, a poll released Monday indicates two-thirds of Americans oppose complete repeal of the Affordable Care Act.
States were, however, able to opt out of the expansion – and that divide was apparent among governors who met on Monday.
Snyder said policymakers should be excited about the opportunity to improve the law and what he sees as Trump’s willingness to consider ideas from the governors in doing so.
The lawmakers say that they were elected to Congress to repeal and replace Obamacare, and that they should follow through on that mandate from their constituents. Let it implode and then let it implode in ’18 even. “We’re going to be rolling out our plan very soon”, Ryan pledged. “That’s the way it is”. “We were elected to fully repeal and replace Obamacare, and that’s the only thing I will vote for”. “Everyone is different, every state is different and different requirements, but I think we have something that is really going to be excellent”. House Freedom Caucus chairman Rep. Mark Meadows and Republican Study Committee Rep. Mark Walker also announced Monday that they would not support that version of repeal. “There’s nothing to love, it’s a disaster, folks”. “So you have to remember that”. Bernie gathered himself like a champ and told Anderson that he was well aware of just how complicated health care reform is. “Now a third of US counties are down to one insurer, and the insurers are fleeing”. Price was confirmed on February 10, and critics are accusing Trump of lying to the American people once again.
The Obamacare repeal and replacement debate is heating up this week after a week-long break for Congress. States would be allowed to set up high-risk insurance pools for people with health conditions that require costly medical services or assist people with high copayments and premiums.
Dozens of Republicans lawmakers have in recent weeks faced large, angry crowds at town hall meetings largely driven by concerns about how the repeal-and-replace effort would affect coverage.
Trump responded: “I haven’t called Russian Federation in 10 years”.
