Trump to CPAC: ‘I’m Not Representing the Globe – I’m Representing Your Country’
His first order of business?
But there’s unity around the enemy.
Trump’s latest efforts to find out who’s leaking information to the media about his team being in contact with Russian intelligence officials during the election campaign involved tweeting his displeasure with the Federal Bureau of Investigation on Friday morning for being unable to “find the leakers within the Federal Bureau of Investigation itself”.
Trump didn’t disappoint Friday.
So, Andy, last year, they were booing then-candidate Trump. Trump ultimately did not attend.
At the time the bombastic billionaire, a CPAC veteran known for engaging deliveries, was running for president and many conservatives shunned him, asserting that he wasn’t conservative enough. But at it’s heart the CPAC audience knows that there isn’t conservative feminism because to them, you can’t be a feminist unless you hate men. Trump says he’ll return.
“They’re not the same. They’re very dishonest people”. “I’m representing your country”. “So now the only thing we’ve gotta do is kick the RINOs in the butt”.
Further blurring the line between candidate and president, Trump departed the stage to the Rolling Stones’ “You Can’t Always Get What You Want”, the same exit music he used during his campaign. “He promised to negotiate one-on-one trade deals and lift restrictions on US energy”. It steered clear of hot-button social issues, like abortion.
Some analysts said Trump’s constant attacks on the press are created to undermine the public’s faith in institutions in general and the media in particular, as well as to generate doubt about negative stories regarding the administration.
It began with a joke.
Instead of the liberal media pitching a hissy fit about how they are being treated by President Trump (treatment they richly deserve), they could be reporting on the unbelievable fact that the national debt has gone down by $12 billion in the first month of the Trump Administration.
“They’re very dishonest people”, Trump continued.
For more on CPAC, I’m joined by “Reuters” political reporter Andy Sullivan. After witnessing this “unhinged” event, Fox News’s own Shepard Smith, 53, had to stand up for his rival network, saying that Donald “owe (s)…the American people” answers to questions from the media.
Not all Republicans like the hard-edged tactics.
“The president said the news media is the enemy of the American people”, McRaven, now chancellor of the University of Texas system, said in a speech.
Genevieve Peters, an educator who works for the Los Angeles public school district, described Trump’s speech as “phenomenal”.
But it’s fantasy to believe that journalists arrive in the newsroom in the morning, get their coffee and meet in a dark room where they pull the shades and map out a strategy to make up sources and fabricate news to hurt this or any president.
Young Zachary Zupan, 20, is longing for the next Reagan.
Trump isn’t really a traditional conservative. What he feared was that Trump’s style would become associated with the right wing; he’d govern like a lefty; and the entire conservative movement would be unfairly tarred. He has nominated a conservative Cabinet and a conservative to the Supreme Court.
He also promised to focus on “getting bad people out of this country”.
There’s been a large push recently on the right to co-opt feminism, to claim it is anti-abortion or that conservatives can be just as feminist as progressives.
“We conservatives have an opportunity that only comes around every few generations”, Pence said. And that’s not sufficient for any constructive political movement.
