Trump to hold rally in Austin
As part of his Texas trip – his first since becoming his party’s nominee, the second since June – Trump will be raising needed campaign cash at a pair of fundraisers. He’ll head to a fundraiser at 6:30 p.m.at the Headliners Club, then on to a rally at the Travis County Expo Center at 7:30 p.m.
Steinhauser says things could be going better for Trump-even in Texas – and his strategy is all over the place.
While it is unusual for a presidential nominee to publicly campaign in safely red Texas, the Austin rally was not entirely unexpected.
“I started out supporting [U.S. Sen.] Ted Cruz”, he said, “but in SC, the Lord gave me the revelation that Cruz couldn’t win”. Mr. Trump is expected to talk about border security and will be supported by members of the National Border Patrol Council.
“Young people are dissatisfied with or not very excited about Donald Trump”, said Charlie Kirk, the 22-year-old founder and executive director of Turning Point USA, a conservative campus group based in Lemont, Illinois.
“If Trump’s in Texas, it’s because Texas must be in play”, Mauro said.
“Communities across the spectrum are rejecting Donald Trump’s unsafe candidacy which has opened up more opportunities for us in states that have typically favored Republicans”, said Lily Adams, a Clinton campaign spokeswoman and the granddaughter of the state’s last Democratic governor, Ann Richards. He will also use the rally to discuss the “need for a Special Prosecutor to investigate Hillary Clinton’s bought and paid for State Department”, according to a statement from Trump spokesman Jason Miller. Abbott instead will be at Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio for ongoing treatment of burns he suffered while vacationing more than a month ago. Former Gov. Rick Perry adjusted his schedule to attend the Austin fundraiser. “The fact that Trump’s coming to Texas means he’s coming to win the state”.
The latest statewide official to express support for Trump, Land Commissioner George P. Bush, also will not be at the rally. “Mr. Trump’s visit will help broaden his popularity amongst Texas Republicans and further unite our Party as we inch closer to November”. He was escorted from the grounds after carrying a sign reading “Trump is a child rapist”.
The campaign has not said how much money he raised.
