Trump triumphant: Divided GOP lets the bully win
The public embrace of a possible brokered convention marks a sharp shift in rhetoric from Rubio’s top adviser that could be created to raise alarm bells among Republican officials.
Republicans crisscrossed SC looking to derail billionaire Donald Trump and Texas Sen.
“After this week I feel 55”, the 44-year-old senator joked as he courted voters at an Okatie elderly community Thursday.
George W Bush’s decision to go to war in Iraq in 2003 remains a topic of debate in the race to find a successor to President Barack Obama, with Trump noting that he had opposed the war.
In remarks that were at times personal and others defiant, he also may have simply needed to talk it out to help process his predicament.
The arrival of his brother, who won the S.C. primary in 2000, is part of an all-out push to succeed in a state that has been friendly to the Bush family. “I’m self-funding, I’m doing my own money”, Trump said Friday as booming cheers erupted at a packed arena at the University of South Florida. “I have both won elections that I was supposed to lose and I’ve lost elections I was supposed to win and what that means is you never know what will happen”.
“I taught them more last night from that experience, I feel, than any words I’ll share”.
And the firm, Remington Research Group, said it wasn’t them, either. “I’m so proud of the campaign we ran, the people that ran it with me and all those who gave us their support and confidence along the way”, he wrote at the end of the post.
A more aggressive Rubio showed up Thursday in Okatie.
Republican George W. Bush on Monday will seek to generate a fresh burst of enthusiasm for his brother Jeb Bush’s White House bid in SC, marking the former president’s first appearance on the campaign trail this year.
“Let me ask you, what has (Rubio) accomplished?” Unlike John Kasich and Jeb Bush – the governor and former governor who he was often grouped with – Christie had campaigned hard in Iowa. Marco Rubio have introduced a bludgeon of criticism against Trump as they crisscross the Palmetto State. Langone did not immediately respond to a request for comment, but told The Associated Press Wednesday that Donald Trump’s commanding New Hampshire win was a sign that voters are sick of the status quo. Rubio ended up finishing fifth, but as WNYC’s Matt Katz put it, the move may have ultimately cost Christie votes, too. “But, you’re running to be the leader of the free world – it’s supposed to be a challenge”. Several candidates embraced the chaos as they felt out the best strategies to survive SC and advance into a grueling March primary schedule, when 58 percent of the party’s delegate total will be at stake. “And Senator Sanders coming here this morning further makes it clear that we will not be ignored”, he said. “If we are still fighting with each other in August, and September and October, we won’t win”. Like all of the Republican candidates, Kasich is a conservative and a critic of the Obama administration.
He has some ground to make up in SC, however, with front-runner Donald Trump enjoying a big lead there ahead of the February 20 primary vote.
Sensing weakness, Democrats and Republicans alike have begun to question Rubio’s long-term viability.
“This [election] could be the worst percentage ever [for Republicans], it really could”, he said.
