Trump trolled after declaring ‘tremendous respect’ for women
Throughout history women have faced more inequality than in 2017, of course, but this is the world we’re living in now, and this is the present and future we can impact most.
Among the US strikers on Wednesday is Sabrina Stein, a program coordinator at the Conflict Prevention and Peace Forum who lives in the Brooklyn borough of New York City.
“A Day Without a Woman” marks organizers’ first major action since the nationwide marches on January 21 that drew millions of participants in protest against misogyny, inequality and oppression.
In the United States, some people will be marking the day by protesting.
And this isn’t even considered a completely fair estimate, since it doesn’t take into account industries in which women make less than their male counterparts or unpaid household labor. “Without this sort of collective power, a large number of working-class women may abstain from the strike because the risks of sticking out will seem to outweigh the benefits”.
Before leaving the House floor together, Democratic women delivered speeches in support of the “Day Without a Woman” protest. First lady Melania Trump also made a rare appearance in Washington on Wednesday to host a luncheon honoring International Women’s Day.
“For us, the agency couldn’t exist without women”, said PACO Collective co-founder and CEO Ozzie Godinez.
Today is “Day Without a Woman” day, created to raise the awareness and significance of women’s work.
Organizers for the protest encouraged people to take a day off work, wear red or only patronize women and minority-owned businesses. The movement is part of the International Women’s Strike. With 80 percent of elementary and middle school teachers and 58 percent of high school teachers being female, schools will likely see some of the most dramatic effects of the strike. The argument frustrates her, because she says it is not only about rights, but issues like sexual assault, women’s reproductive health and restrictive legislative measures.
