Trump vs. Clinton: Is a 2017 ‘peaceful transfer’ possible?
Democrats spent most of last week sharpening their attacks on Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump while watching the rollout of his veterans and national security policies during the Republican convention. But that same logic also suggests that Trump’s latest rise in general election polling is more important than previous ones because voters are getting closer to making up their minds.
The GOP convention underscores the Clinton advantage in the surrogate wars (e.g., President Obama, Vice President Biden, Michele Obama, Senator Elizabeth Warren)-assuming being touted by the political establishment is helpful this year. That doesn’t show good leadership.
While avoiding any direct mention of Trump’s name, Clinton slammed many of his recent statements about the military and global affairs, vowing to stand by longtime allies, fight repressive regimes and carefully weigh the advice of military officials.
Clinton has dropped “Rodham” or used some combination of it over the years.
Trump has for months referred to Clinton as “Crooked Hillary”.
He says it’s no coincidence the emails are coming out on the eve of the party’s nominating convention in Philadelphia. We don’t usually spend a lot of time writing about the now-cast because – uhh, breaking news – the election is scheduled for November 8.
Still, he asked: “Wouldn’t it be nice if we actually did get along with Russian Federation?”

On the opposite side of the spectrum from the now-cast is our polls-plus forecast, which builds in a convention bounce adjustment.
Interestingly, Echelon Insights reports that a poll of voters shows that they seem to agree with Ted Cruz’s decision to not endorse Donald Trump.
Finally, there’s our polls-only forecast, which doesn’t have a convention bounce adjustment but is less aggressive than the now-cast.
Both Clinton and Sanders supporters were relatively even when talking about USA influence in the world; Clinton supporters ranked it at 8.9 out of 10 while Sanders supporters put it at 8.5, a rating that hewed closely with views of both Trump and non-Trump Republicans.
“In fact, you could say it’s an expansion”, Trump said, adding that “I’m talking territory instead of Muslim”. But in some ways, all of this detail is missing the forest for the trees. If Democrats can’t make Philadelphia better than Cleveland, they don’t deserve to win. But those bounces do not always turn out to be predictive.
Unlike the Republican nominee, Hillary Clinton is qualified to be president.
The Democratic National Committee’s rules panel has decided that Rep. Marcia Fudge of OH will preside over convention sessions beginning Monday.
While she never mentioned her Republican opponent by name, Clinton referred to Donald Trump in not-so-subtle ways.

It also wasn’t until Wednesday that delegates and television viewers heard a lineup of speakers spend meaningful time saying nice things about Trump.
