Trump won presidency but lost popular vote
President-elect Donald Trump was officially confirmed the victor of Michigan’s 16 electoral votes this afternoon, as reported by Patch. The Michigan Bureau of Elections said the recount can not proceed until two business days after the four-member, bipartisan board resolves the objection.
Hillary Clinton has a lead of 2.36 million over Donald Trump in the popular count and the number is likely to grow, according to analysts.
MI is the tightest of the three states.
This brings the final electoral tally for Trump 306, while former Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton has 232 electoral votes.
Former President George H.W. Bush was the last Republican to win the State of MI, in 1988.
Clinton lost to Trump by about 22,000 votes in Wisconsin.
The commission on Monday unanimously rejected a request from Green Party candidate Jill Stein to recount all votes by hand. Wisconsin has planned to go forward with a recount of its 2.9 million votes. John Fredericks was chairman of the Trump campaign in Virginia.
Stein and the Green Party won 51,463 votes in MI.
Attention continues to swirl around Green Party candidate Jill Stein’s push for recounts in Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, and MI – states where Donald Trump had small margins of victory over Hillary Clinton. Stein had raised almost $7 million, about twice as much as her longshot presidential campaign, to pay for the recounts.
Wisconsin Elections Commission Administrator Mike Haas testified that the state’s voting tabulating equipment is federally certified and field tested for accuracy. The Board of State Canvassers would then hold a hearing on a recount and issue a decision within five days. Stein’s campaign has filed a lawsuit against the W.E.C. after it decided not to recount all ballots by hand.
If the state does not certify its vote totals by December 13th, Congress does not have to recognize Wisconsin’s 10 Electoral College members.
Under laws passed in MI in 2014, recounts are costly for the people requesting them.
More than 17,000 Branch County ballots have to be counted by hand.
The recounting of the presidential ballot across the state is set to begin at 9 a.m.
“There’s no harm in a recount”, Cenk Uygur stated. The only way to determine if an attack took place is to examine the paper trail to ensure votes cast match the results determined by the machines, he said. The organization described Trump’s claims as “unfounded” and observed that the story appears to have originated with InfoWars, an alt-right news outlet. Who are these illegal voters?
