Tuesday marks 35 years since Lennon’s death

Earlier in the day, Lennon had autographed an album cover for Chapman.

At Roosevelt Hospital, Dr. Lynn announced that Lennon was dead shortly after midnight. He was sentenced to 20 years to life behind bars.

“A neighbour said she heard Yoko scream: ‘Help me, ‘ and saw Lennon through the front gate”.

(To read the full stories, click on the links). Lennon wanted to have his wife in the picture with him. Thirty-five years ago in December 8, Mark David Chapman shot and killed Lennon, a former Beatles member. A suspect was seized at the scene.

John Lennon would have been 75 on October 9 of this year.

He said others told him the assailant had been “crouching in the archway of the Dakota….”

The Beatles united a generation of young people with their songs, their attitudes and their sense of style, and John Lennon was the thinking man’s Beatle.

Heartbroken fans gathered on Mathew Street and outside Lennon’s apartment in NY within hours of his death.

They wrote seven of its 14 classic tracks in just one week, reports Rolling Stone. “The media are saying that the 60’s were stupid and naive”, he remarked only a month before his death.

It’s pretty incredible to think about how much John Lennon’s music has influenced all genres of music, particularly country. What about Gandhi? What about Christ?

Known first and foremost for his membership in the world famous band, The Beatles, alongside George Harrison, Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr, Lennon also left behind an impressive solo career with powerful songs like “Imagine” and “God”. Officers arrived moments later and he was arrested, making no attempt to flee or resist. He has been denied parole eight times and remains behind bars.
