Turkey, allies planning operations to clear border of IS

We have certain plans to terminate the Daesh presence on our border.

Sinirlioglu said: “When the plans are complete our operations (against IS) will intensify”.

During the previous round of Vienna talks on October 30, diplomats worked out a nine-point plan on ending the Syrian civil war, including a definition of national unity, the defeat of extremist groups and assistance to refugees.

Daesh “is still present in a zone on our border”.

“The entire border of northern Syria – 75 percent of it has now been shut off. And we are entering an operation with the Turks to shut off the other remaining 98 km”, he said in an interview with CNN.

Turkish opposition daily Cumhuriyet published videos in a June report implicating the Turkish intelligence service, MIT, in ensuring safe passage into Syria for Daesh terrorists.

Ankara/Istanbul: An IS militant was killed and 21 people were detained while trying to cross illegally the border from Syria to Turkey, the Turkish army said on Wednesday.

A brief statement on Wednesday said the incident happened on Tuesday, in Kilis province, which borders Syria.

Turkish police also detained eight people at Istanbul’s Ataturk airport late on Tuesday on suspicion of having links with Daesh.

The group said they were coming from Casablanca, Morocco, late on Tuesday for a vacation in Istanbul and that they had reservations at a hotel, but police found no evidence of their booking, Anadolu reported.
