Turkish helicopter carrying military brass crashes
Six people were killed, including top soldiers, on July 5 when a military helicopter crashed in the Black Sea province of Giresun, APA reports citing private broadcaster CNN Türk.
Nine out of 15 onboard were wounded and are now going under treatment.
“There have been deaths and injuries”, Yildirim told journalists in the western province in Izmir, adding that 15 people had been onboard.
The aircraft was carrying at least 11 personnel, including a colonel and two majors, Hurriyet newspaper said.
Wounded people were immediately transferred to hospitals in the area.
It crashed in the Tohumluk highlands of the Alucra district of Giresun at 5.30 p.m.
Prime Minister Binali Yildirim said that a terror attack was not suspected and that the helicopter most likely crashed due to adverse weather conditions.
In addition, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan also contacted Chief of General Staff Gen. Hulusi Akar for information on the crash. No cause of the crash has been given but the weather was poor at the time.
The soldiers were on board to exchange bayram (Eid al-Fitr) greetings and visit the families of fallen soldiers.
