Turnbull’s party ousts him as Australia PM
“It damaged his image as a super election victor and it meant he only had a majority of one – so he was very vulnerable to anyone threatening to defect”, said political analyst Rod Tiffen, an emeritus professor at the University of Sydney.
“Those who are not free – who are for example locked up in our jails – do not actually qualify as Australians”, Peter Dutton might have said.
Ms Ardern told reporters in Auckland this afternoon that she had just got off the phone to the new prime minister of Australia and had congratulated him on his new role.
Friday’s vote was the second one on his leadership in three days and the culmination of years of what Turnbull asserted was an “insurgency” by opponents aided by right-wing commentators and media outlets, including Sky News, the Australian equivalent of Fox News.
Dutton’s and Turnbull’s camps waged the most chaotic, frenetic and at times farcical leadership struggle that Australian politics has seen in years, closing down Parliament on Thursday so that the government could focus on its rapidly escalating internal crisis.
“It’s quite obvious if you take a gander at Advance Australia Fair, which I don’t need to remind you states that Australians all let us rejoice, for we are young and free”. The Liberal party is the senior partner in the ruling conservative coalition that will face an election by May 2019.
Born in a suburb of Sydney in 1968, Morrison had a background in tourism before entering parliament in 2007.
“I look forward to it”.
Later on Friday, Turnbull said he would quit politics “not before long”. Australia sends many asylum-seekers coming by boat to detention centers outside of the country. He also supports Australia’s reliance on fossil fuels, and has been ambiguous on his stance toward climate change measures.

Congratulations to Scott Morrison.
Morrison himself was an active church member, and met his wife Jenny as a young teenager through the church.
“He’s been involved proactively in promoting New Zealand to the world”.
He credited his win to the “most significant influences on my life – my family and my faith”.
Today, August 24, 2018, Turnbull stepped aside and did not recontest after the party voted for a spill in the leadership.
Previous year the deeply Christian Morrison attracted more controversy for opposing a bill legalizing same-sex marriage, even though it had strong support from his party.
But he has also tried to soften his image, appearing on a cooking-with-politicians series that airs on national broadcaster ABC.
