Turns out Uber is not a good getaway plan for your robbery
A young man in Maryland recently had no getaway vehicle or driver after robbing a store, so he did the next best thing: he opened the Uber app on his phone and requested a pickup. Police claim he picked up a bottle of Tylenol cold medicine and put it on the counter.
Cochran was seen getting into the rear of a silver Lexus. John Wachter of the Baltimore County Police Department told ABC News.
The suspect allegedly fled the establishment with an undisclosed amount of money taken from the registers. Police said they stopped the vehicle and detained all three people inside of it.
Cochran was charged with armed robbery, first-degree assault and other charges.
Upon verification, the other men were identified as an Uber driver and a second passenger, both were proven to have no participation in the crime.
A report on ABC News notes that the Uber driver and a second passenger were released since it was determined they “had nothing to do with the robbery”, police said.
He is being held on $500,000 bail.
Officers tracking Cochran’s whereabouts pulled over the auto.
Since it’s inception in 2009, Uber has experienced huge growth, with the service now operational in 58 countries and 300 cities across the world, but safety concerns have long dogged the company.
