TV series raises concern with school boards

She says if parents watch with their children, “It could be a way to open up conversations about suicide to keep kids safe, for if they have people reach out to them, and connect with them, help them work through these hard times”.
“I think the show is a good avenue to get that conversation started because it’s a very sensitive topic”, Carla Vidrine of Lafayette said.
Critics of the series say it glamorized teenage suicide. But I also think it is an important show for young men.

The AFSP cites an extensive 2014 study of Arkansas students as evidence for increased concern. I thought that the individuals would be heartbroken, defeated, and remorseful, but they weren’t – at least not everyone on the tape was.
“We want families with students who are impressionable or vulnerable to these ideas and images to be aware that “13 Reasons Why” could be hard for these students to process”, the newsletter said.
