TV Star Saved By Viewer That Spotted Cancer While Watching His Show
And he has a fan to thank for helping him find out about his illness early enough that he’s been able to make a full recovery.
“Flip or Flop” star Tarek El Moussa, according to PEOPLE magazine, is in remission after being diagnosed with thyroid cancer that a viewer noticed. According to multiple reports, the viewer, a nurse named Ryan Read, wrote an email to HGTV to alert producers after noticing the growth while watching a 2013 episode of the show, Australia’s the Independent reported.
Moussa’s wife, 32-year-old Christina, who co-hosts the show with him, told People in 2013 that Read’s email said: ‘This is not a joke. “I’m a registered nurse”.
We’ve heard about TV personalities being thankful for their fans, but Flip or Flop host, Tarek El Moussa, will have to go beyond mere thanks.
Read’s email prompted Moussa to have a biopsy of the lump which he previously was told was benign, the Daily Mail says.
Now that the HGTV host’s cancer is in remission, Moussa remains looks forward to his future.
“The last three years have been a pretty big challenge”, said El Moussa, adding, “There is always that chance of reoccurrence but every year that goes by the odds of reoccurrence goes down so it’s good”.
“I probably would’ve never known that I had cancer, ‘ Moussa continued”. ‘The only thing is most days or like half the time I feel a little jetlagged.
In speaking about life after dealing with cancer, El Moussa said after receiving treatment, including thyroid radioactive iodine therapy, he has “slowed down quite a bit”.
He is now cancer-free and became a father in August with the birth of son Brayden James. They already had one daughter, Taylor.
