Tweaks made to Singapore track layout
The changes, said Singapore GP, come on the back of a number of key enhancements to the city’s Civic District that will tie in with the Republic’s 50th anniversary.
Work is on at the Civic District in the island nation, and in order to harmonise this construction with the current layout at the Marina Bay Circuit, the stretch on the track from Turn 11 to Turn 13 has been reworked. This includes the Urban Redevelopment Authority’s integration of Esplanade Park and Empress Place to form a new arts, culture and lifestyle precinct which includes the Asian Civilisation Museum, Victoria Theatre and Concert Hall and the National Gallery.
Singapore GP, the race promoter for the 2015 Formula 1 Singapore Airlines Grand Prix has announced some modifications to the Marina Bay Street Circuit.
From there, the left-handed hairpin at Turn 13 has been widened to allow a better chance of overtaking.
A new 220-metre Jubilee Bridge which links the Merlion Park to the Esplanade promenade has also been incorporated into the Circuit Park, providing spectators with an excellent vantage point of the fireworks display once the chequered flag is waved.
The F1 circus will take on a mildly altered Marina Bay circuit when it arrives in Singapore in a little under two months.
One of the more popular new additions to the calendar, it must be said that organisers of the Singapore Grand Prix do not rest and their laurels and continually seek ways to improve the show.
The changes to the Singapore circuit were overseen by Faithful+Gould Senior Project Manager and Engineering Track Manager Jonathan Giesecke.
The plans have been approved by the FIA and race organisers are hoping the wider entry at Turn 13 will present an additional overtaking opportunity.
