Twitter adds four more Indic languages to web, Android app
Now you can tweet in four more Indian languages along with Hindi and Bengali on both website and Twitter app.
Excited to share that @Twitter is now available in 4 more Indian languages: Gujarati, Kannada, Marathi & Tamil! Hindi and Bengali have been available for users since a year, the social media company said in a blog post on Saturday.
Twitter India’s head of communications Rohan Vyavaharkar said “At Twitter, our constant focus is to enhance user experience so that more and more people can use the platform and reap benefits from it”.
The Compose Tweet UI on mobile also shows the keyboard in the local language you’ve chosen, because Twitter uses your system language to make the setting on Android. “We couldn’t have done it without their help”.
To change the language users should language of their choice from the settings option in the drop down menu on the profile.
To recap, Twitter recently updates its app for iOS and also released a new Windows 10 app bringing in the live tiles, ability to upload multiple photos, support for animated GIFs, vine playback and sharing photos privately via Direct Messages. According to the research and analyst firm Emarketer Inc estimations the user base may increase to 40 million by 2018 year.
The translations have been carried out by the Twitter user community via the Twitter’s Translation Center and in case your language is not supported, you can also join the twitter translation committee as well. At present twitter have over 300 million users.
