Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey Refutes Reports of Algorithm-Based Timeline
The social networking Twitter, has dismissed all rumors revolving around the introduction of a major change by the company, and all those who were outraged at this possibility can now relax. Its plummeting value has sparked constant speculation that Twitter could become an acquisition target.
Over the past few months, Twitter has been testing new algorithmic timeline few random users, and showed satisfaction for wider expansion, according to media reports. “It’s us. And we’re going to continue to refine it to make Twitter feel more, not less, live”.
But as per the Dorsey, the service will largely remain the same.
You would think these people had stock in the company or something, with some of the suggestions and demands they posted.
He also went on to say that Twitter is here to stay and “becoming more Twitter-y”.
Dorsey said he loved the real time stream and the experience would be refined and it would not be made less live.
The ire toward Twitter’s new algorithm may be premature and a little too eulogized even before trying the new version.
An example of my own Twitter timeline on 13 January.
The Verge, who saw the update, is reporting that the whole thing is a mix up and Twitter is actually just planning to expand its “while you were away” feature, and you’ll be able to opt out entirely if you wish.
But rather than being the most recent 200 tweets presented in reverse chronological order, they would be apparently algorithmically picked, and presented in a vaguely structured, non-chronological order, starting with recent tweets, then moving back in time to older tweets, and finishing again with recent ones.
So, when a user logs on, the most popular tweets they would have missed in the intervening time would be displayed in a series, followed by the regular timeline thereafter.
