Twitter has just tested a dedicated GIF button on its mobile app
He shared with TechCrunch that tapping it opened a selection of GIFs to choose from, including those that are now trending, or based on mood categories.
Back in June 2014, Twitter integrated animated GIFs on its platform, on desktop and mobile alike – but users who want to share these animated images need to access a third-party service, such as Giphy.
According to TNW News, the social media tool were planning to let us roam the Twittersphere with some moving animation – thanks to a handy extra button on your tweet panel. We fully expect official word on it from Twitter in the coming weeks when it will become even easier to express yourself online.
The new icon appears to be in testing mode, being only available to a few select users.
As you can see in the tweet below, the dedicated GIF feature can be found in the “compose tweet” screen, sitting in between the camera and poll icons.
Unfortunately, many users who got to preview the button discovered that it had been removed from the mobile app just a short while after it surfaced.
However, GIFs also potentially holds commercial value for companies to promote their brands and products. It’s not clear if Twitter is working with these partners or any other specific GIF platform at this time.
