Twitter introduces Heart to replace Star icon, doesn’t get love from users
Favorite shaped icon of Twitter has been replaced with heart shaped icon called “like”.
Twitter goes on to explain that Periscope and Vine – the company’s live-streaming app and six-second loop apps, respectively – use Hearts, and Twitter wants to make them “the common language for our global community”.
Unlike a star, the heart is “a universal symbol”, wrote Mr. Kumar.
“The heart is more expressive, conveys a range of emotions and easily connects with people”.
“We are changing our star icon for favorites to a heart and we’ll be calling them likes”. In the blog post, Twitter acknowledged the previous tool could be seen as confusing, notably to the new users the platform craves.
Twitter has featured a favourite button in the shape of a yellow star since just after it was launched in 2006.
A few Twitter users have taken to the platform to air their distaste with the demise of the “fav”.
Twitter has made a decision to ditch its star-shaped Favorite button.
He continues: “The heart, and term “likes”, does not feel cohesive with the recent (US only for now) Home page change, which was designed around engaging idle users”.
Twitter said that user testing showed that people loved the new icons, but tweets on Twitter-verse have different feedback. If so, it would much belated and somewhat ill-advised, as that company prepares to introduces a whole palette of new buttons. Twitter said that 307 million users signed into the service on the Web or its mobile application at least once a month during the three months through September 30. Yes, it reverts the heart icon to the old star, but its developers admitted that it might not be flawless.
But are the hearts really a big victor for Twitter?
The change comes as the social media giant aims to make Twitter more appealing to new users. Delightfully for most of us, developers have put together Chrome Extensions that should help you bring it back.
