Twitter may be expanding the character limit on tweets
Re/Code reported the new product in the works. While the limit is also the trademark of the company, many users have been asking for the restriction to be abolished.
While Facebook continues to experience seemingly limitless growth, Twitter has been exploring ways to engage new users and is even through to be pondering dropping the 140 character tweet limit.
Twitter pretty much defined the whole micro-blogging experience by allowing users to write short updates of no more than 140 characters. Such a move would certainly get Twitter a few attention, but it could end up getting a mixed response.
Twitter users may soon no longer have to abide by the 140-character limit when sending tweets, as the company are reportedly preparing a new product that will allow for longer posts.
Twitter has often in the past declined on breaking the 14-character limit as it has been a prime feature in defining its speciality.
Adam Bain, now a senior manager at Twitter and the man who many believe will replace Dorsey as permanent CEO, told the Telegraph that Dorsey has overseen “massive changes” within the company since he took charge.
Chris Sacca who is one of the early Twitter investors has also voiced his support for having Dorsey as Twitter’s CEO.
Twitter removed the 140-character limit from its direct messages in August and announced plans to let users buy goods and make political donations through tweets.
Removing the character limit could be part of a broader effort by San Francisco-based Twitter to reach a more mainstream audience, which in turn would help attract advertisers.
