Twitter may finally let users edit their tweets
Dorsey opened a lengthy discussion on Thursday, Dec. 29, asking users what they would like to see Twitter improve on or add to the platform in 2017.
It appears Jack Dorsey, the Twitter CEO, is considering giving more power to people by allowing them to edit tweets. “#Twitter2017“, tweeted Dorsey in the initial appeal to his almost 4 million followers.
He concluded that the ability to edit tweets was one of the most requested features. In a survey conducted by BuzzFeed of 2,700 Twitter users, about 90% of respondents said the social network did nothing after they reported abuse.
Of course, this isn’t the first time that investors or Twitter users have shared their thoughts about how to improve the company.
Dorsey reiterated that he was “following the footsteps of Brian Chesky”, Airbnb’s CEO, who tweeted a similar question to its users last Monday and later added that he had received over a thousand proposals.
Twitter is still putting thought into this whole idea of editing tweets, and we can’t expect things to change swiftly on the platform. In reply to one of these requests, Dorsey asked if the user wanted the edit feature for a limited time frame after posting the tweet or without any time limitation.
Twitter Edit Button is the recent discussion that the makers of the social media platform are going through in detail.
We’ll consider everything we heard from you. However, Dorsey has long admired the use of Twitter by business leaders to engage with the public. The other would allow you to make edits anytime, much as you can on Facebook.
Conversations: this is a big part of the magic of Twitter and now really hard to follow & manage.
Instead, those arguing against the edit feature suggest users continue revising their tweets the way they already do – deleting it entirely, and rewriting the post.
