Twitter planning 10000-character limit for tweets
As of now, the micro-blogging site has a character limit of 140 for posting tweets on the site.
Just hours after Re/code published a report on Tuesday revealing that Twitter‘s 140-character restriction would soon be abolished, Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey posted a message on the social network confirming that changes are coming.
Twitter had previously added the same 10,000 character limit to it’s Direct Message service.
Twitter’s stock has fallen to an all-time low amid rumours it’s about to allow users to post tweets as long as 10,000 characters. “We’re continuing to explore ways to surface the best content for people using Twitter”, a company spokeswoman was quoted as saying. With this enhanced limit of characters, the reading experience of Twitter would not be interrupted.
Twitter’s character limit and resulting sense of immediacy are part of its brand, however, so the company is unlikely to abandon them completely.
“What if that text was actually text?”
“140 characters is not almost enough to express my outrage that Twitter is raising the character limit to 10,000”, tweeted writer Brian Phillips, in 111 characters. Dorsey said. “Text that could be searched”. This will be an alternative method for users, since they are pretty much fond of adding screenshots with ample text to convey the message.
He said: “We’re not going to be shy about building more utility and power into Twitter for people”. Text that could be highlighted. Twitter has yet to make a profit, whereas big rival Facebook (NASDAQ:FB) made $896 million net profit in the three months to the end of September and has five times as many global users.
Re/code reported earlier on Tuesday that Twitter was considering the new limit. In fact, the initiative is reportedly called “Beyond 140”, and we could see it in action before the year’s first quarter comes to a close.
