Twitter planning to remove 140-character limit on tweets
One option mentioned: Twitter may not count links as part of those 140 characters.
As of right now, the rumors that Twitter is dropping its trademark 140-character limit are just that – rumors.
But sources disclosed to tech site Re/code say Twitter is working on a new product that would let users to type more than 140-characters per post. Removing the limit may make tweeting seem a less intimidating prospect for more everyday computer users, as opposed to hardened social networkers.
Little is known about these plans, but it sounds like the product will be separate from the existing Twitter app. The goal is to allow users to publish long-form content on Twitter, according to Recode. Or at least, we hope this is the case, since Tweets with unlimited character spaces may turn our Twitterfeeds into something that looks like someone uploaded the NSA’s database.
Twitter is floundering. The site’s user numbers may be growing, but this belies the fact that over two thirds of its accounts are inactive.
The maneuver comes during the time in the event that Twitter, by the control of co-founder Jack Dorsey, is operating an effort to reloading person development. Will we be able to quickly scroll through tweets without having to look at long messages from those who love to vomit words? As Twitter is looking to evolve into a more mainstream communication, allowing longer tweets is seen as a lure for advertisers.
“Without the 140 character limit, Twitter becomes a 2nd Facebook”. A Twitter spokeswoman declined to comment.
One of the greatest things about Twitter? Multiple sources have told Recode that the character limit has been a point of discussion in recent months under interim CEO Jack Dorsey, who is apparently supportive of the proposed change. What it does mean is the feature-that must have been sitting on the table for a few time-has CEO Dorsey’s endorsement.
