Twitter Sees 6% Increase In “Like” Activity After First Week Of Hearts
Twitter users were initially not happy when the micro-blogging firm replaced the star with a heart and likes with favorites, but it appears that the change is working well for the company.
The heart symbol is easy to recognize and makes Twitter more accessible to people.
Heart or Star? Which one is more effective for Twitter? “If you think about the size and scale of Twitter, last week there were a lot of favorites and moving that number by 6% is huge”. New users embraced the new heart-shaped button even more, with activity increasing 9 percent. “Its a much more inclusive symbol”.
According to Kevin Weil, Twitter’s senior vice-president of product, the social network decided to make the shift because, “it’s easier to understand”.
Weil, who was speaking on a panel moderated byThe Verge’s Casey Newton, said that the company’s research led them to believe that the change would create more engagement across the platform, something that the data seems to confirm.
Twitter said in a blog post that it chose to go with the heart because it is a “universal symbol that resonates across languages, cultures, and time zones”. “People just understand it better”.
Moreover, Weil justified the changes made by saying that people can like a lot of things, but only a few can be favorites.
Twitter is looking to settle the hearts vs. star debate once and for all.
