Twitter tees off on Josh McDaniels after Patriots offensive coordinator spurns Colts
Maybe winning a Super Bowl isn’t all it’s cracked up to be. Tony Dungy, former HC for the Colts, ripped McDaniels’ decision, calling it “indefensible”. LaMonte was shocked there was even a question.
“You can bet we’re going to get there”, he said. I don’t deal with [the rumors] world. “Unquestionably, we’re going to get there”.
Ballard didn’t elaborate on his own conversations with McDaniels. It all started with our beloved Coach Bill Belichick’s decision to let defensive back Malcom Butler – the hero of the 2015 Super Bowl win over Seattle – stew on the sidelines while Eagles quarterback Nick Foles shredded the Patriots secondary for three touchdowns and almost 400 yards.
McDaniels is one of Belichick’s most-tenured assistants, having served under him a combined of 15 years (nine as offensive coordinator) over two different stints, beginning in 2001.
Ballard opened the news conference by referencing the tragic deaths of linebacker Edwin Jackson and ride-share operator Jeffrey Monroe on Super Bowl Sunday. Despite leading the Colts to three consecutive 11-win seasons that took them to the playoffs, Pagano had a rocky relationship with management – particularly former GM Ryan Grigson.
“It’s not really the same”, McGinnis told the Talk of Fame Network on Wednesday.
The Colts had announced Tuesday that McDaniels agreed to contract terms, but a written agreement was never finalized. According to Ryan Hannable of WEEI.com, there have been reports of increasing tension between Brady and Belichick for most of this season. That was viewed as “extremely valuable” to McDaniels.
Belichick is prepared to tell McDaniels his secrets – the things he’s apparently withheld from McDaniels in previous years.
“Everybody gets in panic mode and just starts hiring, and I just don’t believe in that”, Ballard said. But now that McDaniels has changed his mind and made a decision to stay, it appears that Judge is doing the same. The transient life of a coach doesn’t always make that possible.
Conducting a coaching search in February isn’t what Ballard or Indy envisioned when Chuck Pagano was sacked just hours after Indy completed a 4-12 season on December 31.
When the Giants officially hired Shurmur, general manager Dave Gettleman went out of his way to stress – numerous times – that Shurmur is an “adult” and that “I really believe the head coach job for the NY football Giants is a job for an adult”.
“They say, would you consider staying if we did this?”
The good news for Indy is that the only coaching vacancy still looks pretty attractive if Andrew Luck is healthy. There is a natural connection between Ballard and one of the better head coaching candidates on the market, making this a logical choice.
Success! An email has been sent with a link to confirm list signup. The team is now still without a head coach, however, they do have a defensive coordinator that they brought in when he was supposed to join McDaniels’ staff. “I’m very confident in this”. “That’s on me; that’s not on the organization”.
“No, I’m not going to do any comments”.
“Les told me he had another job being offered to him, and that if I would just tell him he had a job with him that he would turn the other people down”.
So rather than tempt fate, they went after and locked up Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator, Matt Nagy, instead. But that didn’t stop them from announcing an introductory press conference for this week.
He has been working his way back ever since, keeping an Excel file on his laptop titled “lessonslearned.xls.”
McDaniels has turned down opportunities in recent years with the Rams, Browns, Falcons and 49ers. You’ve gotta be right.
ESPN reported Wednesday that Bob LaMonte has dropped McDaniels as a client in the wake of what he called “professional suicide”.
