Twitter thinking about doing away with 140-character limit
Twitter has refused to comment on the issue, however.
However, with the recent news that Instagram has overtaken Twitter in the amount of users it has, many feel Twitter has to do something to attract new people.
Adam Bain, now a senior manager at Twitter and the man who many believe will replace Dorsey as permanent CEO, told the Telegraph that Dorsey has overseen “massive changes” within the company since he took charge.
“Sources added that there is likely to be a few shake-up of the board too, most immediately the departure of Costolo as a director”, Re/code’s Kara Swisher and Kurt Wagner reported.
In August, Twitter removed the 140-character limit for direct messages.
Do you think it’d be a good move for Twitter to drop its 140-character limit on Tweets?
According to a report on Re/Code, Twitter is considering expanding the limit on Tweets.
Twitter may be considering the unthinkable; dropping the current 140-character limit on tweets. Users have come up with workarounds to the character limitation by attaching screenshots of longer text or by linking tweets together in a so-called “tweetstorm”.
People are already reacting to the news on Twitter itself.
Twitter, the world’s second most visited social media website, is reportedly planning to go beyond its conventional 140 character limit as the company is reportedly set to announce a character limit solution soon.
Meanwhile, The Wall Street Journal noted that interim CEO and co-founder Jack Dorsey is behind the project, which has been given the name “140 Plus”.
In May of previous year Twitter allowed users to start tagging up to 10 other users in photos, a feat that would be impossible with traditional @mention tagging people.
