Two babies found dead near used auto lot
Philadelphia police are investigating after the bodies of two newborn infants were discovered Sunday morning in an overgrown lot in North Philadelphia.
Police said the bodies of a newborn male and a newborn female were found lying in the grass next to a used auto lot in the Kensington neighborhood just before 10:30 a.m. Sunday.
It wasn’t immediately clear how the babies died.
Police said the children then ran home and told their parents what they saw. Check back for updates as more information becomes available. The examiner also said that autopsies were previously performed on them at an unknown time by unknown medical personnel.
The umbilical cords were still attached to the infants when they were found by a 9-year-old boy and a 12-year-old girl, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer.
Meanwhile, police say they are investigating reports of unknown persons in a black pickup truck dumping trash on the street near where the newborns were located. Detectives with the special victims unit were to canvas the area for possible video surveillance.
