Two Connecticut teens dress up as Columbine killers, reportedly face expulsion
In a message posted on the schools’ website, McMullin said “Whether or not the teenagers posed a threat, we took every matter at every stage pretty seriously”.
Their investigation determined the two were responsible, adding that information gleaned from the investigation suggested they meant to inflict bodily harm on other students at the high school.
“Throughout the past three days, the state police and the district have remained in close contact as their full investigation took place”, McMullin said. The high school principal notified police on Sunday of a “possible hostile event” that was going to occur at the school Monday, state police said.
The students’ attorney, David Moraghan, tells the Times it’s all a big misunderstanding: the students did attend a Halloween party dressed in “distasteful” costumes, but they were not armed and did not make any threats. “At every stage of the investigation, we were reassured by the troopers that there was no evidence of any credible threat that would necessitate any change in our regular daily practices”.
State police say the two Litchfield High School students were charged with inciting injury to persons and breach of peace and taken to a juvenile detention center.
A hint of sarcasm was detected by the suspects’ response and the conversation ended, Moraghan said. Speaking to the media, he said a girl told her parents about the costumes, who then alerted police. Please disregard the various timelines and inaccurate confusing details presented by various media outlets. The moment we became aware of their presence, we asked both to leave school property immediately. Moraghan reiterated to the Times, “There was no risk of anyone being injured, assaulted or harmed”. I think it was a very bad Halloween costume two kids thought of that they never thought of the consequences… “Both boys are so remorseful for their stupidity”.
