Two dead as vehicle plunges 1,000ft
The pair’s vehicle came off the Grossglockner High Alpine Road near the village of Fusch, 60 miles east of Innsbruck in Austria, and smashed through a safety barrier.
The 12,460ft Grossglockner is Austria’s highest peak and one of the highest in the Alps.
The pair had been taking part in a auto rally from Brussels to Budapest.
On Wednesday, they posted footage in which they acknowledged the hazards they faced on the road trip.
As mentioned by Sky News, the Kronen Zeitung newspaper reported that the men, aged 22 and 25, lost control of their auto on the hairpin road at the Fuscher Törl mountain pass, about 2,400m (7,874ft) above sea level. They failed to turn up at a planned rendezvous with him or at a glacier further along the route.
His mother Jenny added: “My wonderful son”.
Marcus Robinson, Mr Robinson’s father, said his son was “kind, gentle and loving” and had a passion for cars. “Your always be my little boy, daddy going to bring you home babe”.
The Great European Rally began in Belgium and will end in Hungary.
The Grossglockner Hochalpenstrasse road is only open for six months of the year, and is known for its stunning views and treacherous bends.
The two men were pronounced dead at the scene and the crash is being treated as an accident.
A rescue team examine the wrecked auto.
The Foreign Office confirmed the deaths and said it was ready to provide consular assistance to the families.
