Two Dead, Three Critically Injured In OVO Fest Afterparty Shooting
The afterparty was hosted at Muzik nightclub on the nearby Exhibition grounds, and went into the early hours of this morning (August 4).
It was not immediately clear whether Drake was present at the club during the shooting. Two were left dead, described as a man and a woman in their 20s and 30s. The police also haven’t revealed the identities of the victims, although it suggested that one was in their ’20s and the other their ’30s.
Police are investigating other shootings in the area that are also believed to be linked to the violence at Drake’s after-party at Muzik.
“This is a sporadic shooting that did occur just before 3:30 this morning at 15 Saskatchewan”, said Toronto Police Superintendent Frank Bergen when addressing the media.
It’s not yet known whether this was a targeted shooting, but Deputy Police Chief Peter Sloly said that there was “at least one completely innocent bystander in this”. Sloly said police fired no shots.
Bergen called the after-party “a well-run event with police officers in and around the nightclub”.
“We’re satisfied at this point that the organisation involved was doing their best and this did occur at approximately 3:30 a.m.as things were shutting down for the evening”, Bergen told Global News.
“We’re absolutely shocked by this horrific attack”, club owner Zlatko Starkovski said in the statement. “We are very lucky that this is not a larger body count, quite frankly”.
Meanwhile, Mayor John Tory said he is “saddened and angered” by this “senseless shooting” via Twitter.
Drake poked fun at his rival Meek Mill during his OVO Fest appearance, while Kanye West and Pharrell Williams joined him onstage during the headline set.
There were two victims in this shooting that were fortunate enough to be airlifted to the Jersey Short University Medical Center, though they are now in critical but stable condition.
