Two Killed, Four Children Injured After Tornadoes Sweep Through Florida
Two people were killed early this morning in a mobile home in Manatee County as severe weather and reported tornadoes ripped through the Tampa Bay region overnight.
Manatee County Sheriff told the WeatherUnderground website that two people were killed in the incident and four children were taken to hospital after the home was destroyed.
Officials report one tornado touched down either at or near 20225 Albritton RD in Duette and the other one in Siesta Key.
One family in Sarasota whose home was destroyed had to be removed from the wreckage by firefighters but they only suffered minor injuries.
Photos posted to social media showed significant damage to homes. A large section of roof was blown off of a condo building in the 6000 block of Midnight Pass Road in Siesta Key. Winds were estimated to have reached 70 miles per hour in Sarasota.
The National Weather Service says a line of strong to severe thunderstorms was expected to move through central and south Florida on Sunday morning with a threat of damaging winds, hail and isolated tornadoes.
