Two killed in militant attack on Jammu-Srinagar highway
There is a little information regarding this attack by the Pakistani militants on the BSF convoy in which a total of 5 jawans have been injured.
Sources said that the terrorists opened fire from a hillock along the highway and hurled grenades. However, the remaining terrorists managed to escape from the site of attack.
Also a massive search operation has been launched to trace the terrorists involved in the attack, said the police official. “The militants have been engaged by security forces and one of them was neutralised”, K Rajendra, the region’s director general of police, told AFP.
Two BSF jawans were killed and around eight personnel injured, the officer said.
Army and police have rushed to the spot and entire area has been cordoned off. Vehicular movement on the highway has been stopped due to the incident.
The officer said the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway is cleared for traffic each day by road-opening parties which employ high-tech equipment and sniffer dogs to ensure there are no explosive devices planted anywhere by militants.
Former J&K chief minister Omar Abdullah also took to Twitter to confirm the development.
Following the attack, additional security force has been deployed on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway.
