Two Killed, Many Feared Trapped in Arunachal Landslide
The landslide incident occurred at around 1100 hours this morning, according to officer in-charge Bhalukpong Police Station under West Kameng district of Arunachal Pradesh.
Top police and rescue team rushed to the area and launched rescue operation to rescue the missing persons.
“The victims were residing below a small hillock, which caved in, burying the 10 people”, said a district official.
The SP, who is on his way to Bhalukpong from the district headquarter town of Bomdila to supervise rescue operation, said torrential rains in the past couple of days has triggered flood-like situation in the town bordering Assam.
Five people were still trapped under the debris till Friday evening. The deceased have been identified as the cook of the circuit house Lil Bahadur Chetry (57), helper to cook Dilip Gawala (15), RWD staff Hiren Barman (54), Ms Durga Barman (45) and Ms Rina Barman (24) years.
He also announced an ex-gratia relief of Rs 1 lakh for the next of kin of each of the victims killed in the landslide.
He cautioned the people and advised them to remain alert and take necessary precautions as the state is experiencing torrential rainfall, a Raj Bhawan release said. Pul also provided Rs1.
