Two killed when vehicle hits house in Doncaster
Two people have died and another has suffered life-threatening injuries after a vehicle crashed into a house near Doncaster, South Yorkshire Police said.
A third person is now being treated in hospital for “life-threatening” injuries after the deadly smash in Branton, Doncaster.
The force expects the road to remain closed for some time while the emergency services, including the Yorkshire Air Ambulance and South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue, attend the scene of the crash.
The incident took place at around 12.50pm and emergency services remained at the scene, in Poppyfields Way, into the evening.
An eyewitness to the fatal incident stated that the auto burst upon impact, being engulfed in fiery flames right after it crashed into a house.
The 21-year-old said his parents, who own the detached house, are on holiday in Tenerife.
Speaking at the scene, Anette Potter said: “I heard a loud bang and ran outside into the garden”.
“If that had happened the auto would have been on fire and the house would have gone up in flames”.
He said his girlfriend came out to see a man step out of the auto on fire.
Tracey said: “We were coming home from work when we were overtaken by this erratic driver who was weaving in and out of the road and overtaking cars into oncoming traffic”. He was outside but his girlfriend was in the house and she couldn’t get out for a while.
Mr Burton said: “It seems that it has lost control a high speed, it’s gone through the bollard a bit further down the road and it’s gone through my wall. And she was out of the house on the phone”.
“We sorted all that out”.
Mr Burton said he and his friend decided to move the family cars off the drive to prevent the fire spreading.
He told BBC Radio 5 Live: “We saw there were two cars, possibly three cars, racing side-by-side and… they were hitting one another”.
The resident said: “It was unbelievable”.
