Two Militants Die in Clash With the Police in Jammu and Kashmir
The encounter happened in Bomai area of Sopore. Another militant is still engaged in firing on security forces, said reports. They said that on a tip-off, security forces and Special Operation Group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir police launched a joint search operation at Bomai in Sopore.
He said militants opened fire on the advancing security forces, who retaliated. In a similar incident on Tuesday a militant and a soldier were killed in neighbouring Machil sector in a gunfight when the Army intercepted a group of militants at Katwara forest area in the sector.
Both the militants were shot dead in the gunfight that lasted for several hours, he said.
Police identified the slain militants as Imtiyaz Ahmed Lone son of Abdul Khaliq of Ussan Pattan and Altaf Ahmed Mir son of Abdul Rashid a resident of Bratkalan Sopore. The youth raised pro-freedom slogans, however police and paramilitary forces dispersed the protesters.
Soon after the first militant was killed, the people mostly youth took to the streets and held protest demonstration. The operation is being conducted by the Army and the police.
