Two officers shot by gunman in Sand City Target parking lot
A shootout in a Target parking lot in Sand City, near Monterey, on Monday afternoon ended with two men dead and two police officers injured, according to local media reports.
Four people were shot, including two police officers and the two suspected gunmen.
A witness said the first shots were fired by one of the men in the auto .
Sand City Police Chief Brian Ferrante said officers were executing warrants on two suspects after getting word they were at the Target store at 2040 California Ave.

The two suspects have not been identified.
“We now have 15 investigators that are involved in gathering evidence both here and also with the hospital”, Flippo said.
Both officers were hit by gunfire; they are hospitalized in stable condition, Ferrante said.
Seaside police, the California Highway Patrol, the Monterey County Sheriff’s Office and other agencies have responded to the scene, the dispatcher said.
“Fortunately no innocent bystanders were involved”, Ferrante said.
