Two Packers starters likely to miss game
However, while Rams rookie running back Todd Gurley pounded out 159 yards on 30 attempts, Foles was miserable.
The Rams came out firing, completing a 68-yard pass to Stedman Bailey with less than one minute left in the game.
There’s been an obvious and significant turnaround since Green Bay allowed Matt Forte to rush for 141 yards to open the regular season.
Wearing a sleeveless T-shirt with “WE ARE GOOD” in big block lettering across the front, Jake Arrieta looked at ease while he made himself a sandwich and mingled with the rest of his teammates on Sunday morning. The penalties were even, 8 for 40 against St. Louis, 7 for 67 against the Pack but McCarthy was really hot about having 12 men on the field flags against both the offense and defense in the 4th quarter. Though Rodgers then threw another one, when Trumaine Johnson jumped a route to James Jones to pick off Rodgers in the second quarter.
The Rams have a terrific defensive line that shouldn’t be taken lightly. “But I’ve still got to work tomorrow and we’ll see how it goes from there”.
“I’ve got to make better decisions to give my teammates the opportunity to make a play”, Foles said. The Rams secondary has proven to be the area that teams have been able to exploit most, examples can be found in Russell Wilson and Carson Palmer.
Clay Matthews was the star of the defense, again, on Sunday.
Twice when the Rams had marched to within the Packers’ 10-yard line, defenders were able to pick Foles off in the end zone. Randall Cobb (team-leading 25 receptions) and James Jones have more than picked up the pace, recording four touchdown catches apiece while tight end Richard Rodgers has two scores in his last three games.
Mixed in with the Week 5 NFL Sunday action, we had a good-looking matchup at Lambeau Field between the Packers and the Rams. “Have to start a new one. All we could do was just take our (pass) sets and give our best effort”. Streaks are meant to be broken, so it’s fun to put something together like that. “It directly impacts the game taking points off the board”.
Green Bay drew first blood, with the Rams blowing coverage on a third-and-6 pass to wide receiver Ty Montgomery. Nick Foles threw his 4th interception just three plays later, ending the game and giving the Packers the 24-10 victory.
St. Louis hung in there, though, and seized momentum late in the first half. Tavon Austin led in receiving with 96 yards and two touchdowns.
Of course it took an unbelieveable play to snap Rodgers’ streak. After a second Rodgers interception, Greg Zuerlein posted a 42-yard field goal to cut the lead to 14-10 at the half. Foles’ four interceptions were a career worst, with two coming in the fourth quarter inside the Packers 10. Nick Perry left with a shoulder injury and B.J. Raji couldn’t finish with a groin injury. Rodgers’ three-turnover game was his first since 2009…. But the Rams inflicted the Arizona Cardinals with the first loss of the season in a 24-22 game, and they will be looking to do the same today against the as-yet ideal Packers.
