Two Police Officers Shot in Sebastian County, Arkansas

Billy Jones was barricaded inside his home, according to Phillip Peevehouse with the Sebastian County Sheriff’s Department.
No details about the officers’ conditions were immediately released. Today’s shooting incident, which also resulted in injuries to Hackett Chief of Police Darrell Spells, tragically illustrates the dangers our law enforcement officers face each and every day to keep us safe.
James Markward, who lives nearby, said he heard a commotion early Wednesday. The officer, Deputy Bill Cooper, was reportedly one of two officers wounded by gunman Billy Monroe Jones after responding to a 911 domestic violence call.
An Arkansas sheriff says a man suspected of shooting and killing a deputy had wanted to cause a “ruckus” ahead of a court appearance. Pevehouse identified the two shot as a sheriff’s deputy and a Hackett police officer.
‘It woke me up this morning, the gunshots. “My neighbour called me and asked if I was shooting, and I said ‘No, not me'”.
Authorities were at the home of the suspected shooter on Wednesday morning, though that person was not in police custody, sheriff’s spokesman Philip Pevehouse said, 40/29 News reported.
A suspect with “negative feelings” towards law enforcement has shot a police chief and a deputy in rural Arkansas near the Oklahoma state line and is on the run.
