Two soldiers killed in attack on check post in Bannu
ISLAMABAD, July 30 (Xinhua) – At least two security personnel and three militants were killed when insurgents stormed a security check post in Pakistan’s northwest Frontier Region (FR) Bannu Thursday morning, local Urdu TV channel Abb Takk reported.
According to details, two personnel embraced martyrdom and three terrorist were killed during a clash at Bannu.
Sources said the armed members of Qaumi Lashkar raided a militants’ hideout in Bezot area and killed the commander identified as Mushtaq.
“Around 10 militants attacked the security forces’ checkpost outside Bannu suddenly under cover of darkness”, a senior security official in the area told AFP. The bodies of the martyred security personnel shifted to hospital.
The region has witnessed a number of attacks including a massive jail break in April 2012 during which 384 prisoners escaped from its central prison.
Pakistan has been battling a homegrown Islamist insurgency for over a decade following the late 2001 US-led invasion of Afghanistan.
