“Following specific information about the movement of militants on the Srinagar-Jammu highway, security forces established a “Naaka” (checkpost) at Sempora”. The militants on board lobbed a grenade and then fired on the security forces in a bid to flee from the spot.
SRINAGAR, Indian-controlled Kashmir, Dec. 8 (Xinhua) – Two militants were killed, while two paramilitary troopers of India’s Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and two civilians were wounded Tuesday in a gunfight in Indian-controlled Kashmir, officials said.
Officials said that on Tuesday evening police and CRPF setup a check point on the national highway at Pampore and started checking vehicles plying on the national highway. Two civilians, including a woman, were also injured in the exchange of gunfire.
Police sources said as the vehicle was stopped the militants jumped out of it and threw a grenade.
“The plan was foiled after the police and the CRPF intercepted the vehicle and killed both the terrorists”, the officer said.
Two CRPF men of 23 battalion received gunshot wounds and have been shifted to hospital for treatment. “But the CRPF and SOG were able to foil their nefarious designs”, said Jha. Area has been cordoned off but traffic and normal operations will take time to be restored shortly. “Six of the CRPF jawans were injured but all are out of danger”, he told reporters.
