Two top aides to Ben Carson campaign resign
The resignations were first reported in the Des Moines Register.
In a late October NBC/WSJ poll, Carson was supported by 29 percent of Republican voters nationally, but the new approval rating places him in the middle of the Republican pack.
“I have 100 percent confidence in my campaign team, ” he added.
In this photo taken September 30, 2015, Ben Carson for President Campaign Communications Director Doug Watts is seen at the Carson’s campaign headquarters in Alexandria, Va. Two of Republican presidential candidate Ben Carsons top paid advisers are leaving the campaign with only a month to go before Iowas leadoff caucuses.
While appearing on CNN’s “The Lead”, Armstrong said Ben Carson never wanted his campaign manager to resign, but that changes were needed.
“What Dr. Carson has to do, which he is doing now, is get in on message”. The source charged Williams with being responsible for the struggles Carson’s campaign has had in the polls and in fundraising throughout December.
“General Dees is going to run the organization”, Williams said, rejecting reports that veteran political adviser Ed Brookover would be taking over. “I spent the holidays hearing every day that I had lost my job”, Bennett said in an interview Thursday.
On Williams’ urging Carson to talk to reporters about campaign unrest, Bennett called it a “stupid move”. Campaign Manager Barry Bennett told ABC News on December 11 that the relationship was “a disaster”. His team is plotting a more aggressive communications strategy to be more responsive to the media and to current events, Dees said. I bet we’ll be hearing something about that from Bennett and Watts now that they’ve parted ways with Carson and Williams.
“I’ve been in politics 30 years and don’t know anyone who thinks it’s a good idea to have your candidate go on national TV and announce they’re taking charge of the campaign”, said Bennett. In the third quarter, his campaign raised $20.76 million and spent $14.24 million. “They work very hard for Dr. Carson”, Williams told Politico when asked Tuesday about the potential staff shakeup.
