TY Hilton A Game-Time Decision Vs. Jets
Indianapolis looks to bounce back from a disappointing showing Monday night against visiting New York, which seeks its first 2-0 start in four years. Andrew Luck and the Colts host the Jets Monday night in their home opener. They have a tough defense that will surely bring it against Fitzpatrick and the Jets’ offense. In his press conference with the New York media on Wednesday, head coach Todd Bowles talked about facing the young star. Enjoy!
Luck failed to challenge any records, but he fared well with a 37, the highest among quarterbacks in the 2012 draft class. In case you’re wondering, the player he replaced on the Colts – Peyton Manning, the definition of a cerebral quarterback – scored a 28. More often than not, Luck and his teammates have responded with a win. He makes them go. They are a physical team. You guys saw the playmaking ability. For every game I will try to do a pregame and a post game report, and I will write about other Jets related topics that interest me. Stacy was inactive last week.
Owusu was amazed by Luck’s football aptitude in college, but his favorite Luck moment was a tackle, of all things. It blew up on me real fast. This just in, he’s pretty good. He’s a great player, and he’s very, very smart. Week one provided a reality check of sorts for them (though I don’t know why they needed it after that blowout in the AFC Championship game), and they have rebounded from losses remarkably well under Chuck Pagano, going 14-1 the week after a loss.
“That’s the kind of guy he is”, Owusu said of his old quarterback. Ryan Fitzpatrick is no Luck, after all. We’ll use binary sometimes, but he’s the only one who really understands it (joking). New York is a huge underdog in this game, projected to lose by seven points.
On if there is a common thread with him starting the season efficient and well… “We had a lot of mistakes, lot of penalties and stuff like that”. If we come out and lay and egg this week, that’s all forgotten quickly. “That’s part of it. Pressure can be a good thing as long as it’s not being dictated by factors outside of your coaches, your teammates, family and maybe close friends”.
He spent his first three seasons buried on the depth chart in New Orleans, but ran for 716 yards as a rookie in 2010 after being signed as an undrafted free agent out of Tiffin.
“He said, ‘Bro, you have 18 catches right now,'” Marshall noted. He’ll wall, just stay on one side.
On his familiarity with the Colts and if he feels like he’s better prepared being on a new team…
Now the Colts are trying to make the most of their second chance. I know the dynamic that needs to be there for them to work together.
On converting in the red zone… Dorsett ran a 4.33 forty yard dash at the combine making him a threat in the return game. Hilton told reporters he thought it would be a game-time decision. “It doesn’t matter who’s on your team, when you go out and play the way that we played, you’re not going to win”. “Again, we’ll deal with that when we find out what that is”. Cromartie was limited at practice this week but wasn’t ruled out for Sunday’s game just yet. Luck and his offense have the potential to put up points in bunches, even without Hilton.
